Russell H. Tandy

This is obviously an illustration for a cover of one of the first Nancy Drew books; these were created for little girls that were looking for something fun and interesting to read. In 1959 the book series was revisited to eliminate racist stereotypes and to change the covers. The artwork done for the first books was made by Russell H. Tandy; he did the illustrations in the book as well as the cover paintings where Nancy was always portrayed as a confident individual. It works very well because there is enough in the composition to get someone interested in the story, but there is not to much on the cover too give away what will happen.
