Henry Warren week.7

This is a artist, Nigel Quarless, that I came across while pursuing the Internet. He is an illustration/ concept designer. He does a lot of work that I really like. He mostly does hand drawn art that are finished digitally but finishes it in a very painterly like way that gives it a lot of emotion and depth. I have also noticed that a lot of his work tends to use a very close color pallet, sometimes with spots of contrasting color just to grab attention. His lines are very organic and he really allows many of the outline marks to disappear giving it a really natural feel and shows that his fluency in composition is strong enough to still give really defined imagery. His color is also very flat which allows for that animation feel. His concepts seem to be overall very narrative and tend to stay along a very fairytale like, indigenous theme.

  1. I like this picture, very well done. I also like the cool colors prodominant in the rain forest.

  2. The environment created in this piece feels so incredibly lush, which is a bit odd to think, as there's very little going on in the background. However, the coloring, selective silhouetting and lighting are creating so much depth. The lighting is especially fantastic.

  3. Normally I'm a little turned off by work that look over digitalized, but this one has a good balance and looks natural. The lighting is beautifully done.

  4. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was the tempting of Eve in the garden of Eden, but more of an erotic look/feel to it.
