Week 4 Mercer Meyer

There are a very few artists that I still have a connection to as I have grown up. When I was young I read so many of Mercer Meyer's Little Critter books, but my favorite was Grandma and Me. It was my favorite book, the story was simple a day at the beach. But the animals and the indistinguishable main characters made it easy for anyone to relate too no matter their background.

Mercer Mayer is an American Artist, who is most known for his children's book illustrations. He also credited for the wordless children's book format. His most famous series are the Little Critters and Little Monsters. I looked at his other art, and he shows the whimsy and imagination of being a child. As we get older, it's easy to forget the parts of childhood that make were simple and made us happy. Looking at Mercer Meyer's work reminds me those times, and take the strain off of adult hood.

  1. Those things scared me when I was a little kid.

  2. I used to read these as well as a child, but like Higgins I was a bit off put by the style, the characters aren't anthropomorphism enough to really speak to kids, it was really a book for older types that liked kids books.
