Josh Kirby

Josh Kirby was a fairly prominent English commercial artist in the 80's. I came across this on a blog called Monster Brains which I would definitely recommend checking out. Kirby's work is very appealing to me... The saturated colors, the highly detailed figure work, and the exaggerated dimensionality all work together brilliantly to make each piece look like a masterpiece. Its very interesting to me how he uses classical compositions to show fantastical events; such as this one where a dead space man is surrounded by alien creatures. He makes the scenes look so epic, they almost feel biblical. Kirby has certainly invented his own language to work within and it works great for him. Here's his website: http://joshkirbyart.com/

  2. The monsters here are very original, some of them remind me of the "Yellow Bastard" character from Frank Miller's Sin City. I think this is an effective work for a creepy art collection or part of a greater story perhaps an illustrated book of some sort. A bit too busy for cover art though.

  4. This image is so chaotic and scrambled! You could look at it for awhile and stillnpt see everything in it. Normally images that runoff of the page bother me, but in the case it doesn't. Maybe since there's so much to look at?
