Bruce Timm

Bruce Timm is an animator who has worked on various cartoons since the nineteen-eighties. He had started off at Filmation working layouts on Flash Gordon, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, employed by Ralph Bakshi and Don Bluth and for a long time Warner Bros, starting with Tiny Toon Adventures. A notable comic book fan, perhaps he is best well known for his work as a co-creator and producer of Batman: The Animated Series. This carried onto many other animated programs related to DC Comics including Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond and Justice League Unlimited. His is a very stylized method of drawing; character designs are simple but very energetic. Male characters have many sharp edges and contours, women with soft curves. He makes of use of very bold inks and lines that have a great impact on the viewer. In this particular piece, there are a lot of characters present, a lot of elements that work and flow along the imposing visage of the Dark Knight himself, the focal point that draws it all together.

  1. I like the older (vintage) Batman better. I understand they are going for the whole Dark Knight feel. Sometimes I think they are just too dark. Too scary.

  4. Bruce Timm was one of the first artists I was ever able to recognize. I still watch the 90's cartoon sometimes. It holds up. His artwork has, and always will be, a staple in the Batman universe.
