So here's this guy, Jon Burgerman, who apparently did one of the worlds greatest and most extensive doodles. I think that this is a good example of a simple artistic style that holds in itself, enough detail and character to make it a wonderful work of invasive hotel art. The simplicity of the burger man's style says a lot about the early stages of every illustrative style and uniqueness, that being your brain poured out onto whatever canvass is readily at hand. I personally like how the characters drawn create a sort of pattern throughout the hotel room and at first glance, is a bit hard to absorb. In contrast to a lot of other illustrations out there, this particular brand of "street art", or "hotel art" draws on the surface it itself is being drawn upon. I don't think that this illustration would look any less good on a large piece of paper, but it would drastically change its dynamic. There should really be more hotels like this. Though I am not sure they had any say in it.
Wow. Wow. Wow. The amount of detail is pretty crazy. But it looks like he had a lot of fun. It's one of those images where you can keep coming back and discover new things each time. Does he get commissioned to draw on walls or does he just bomb the walls of any hotel he stays in?
ReplyDeletePretty sweet. It's not as detailed....but there's some nice art at The Flat Iron building and inside the bar in Wicker Park where there's some art like this that cover the walls.

ReplyDeletethats crazy... who has this much time? also risky, i mean one mistake can ruin all that time and effort. i think the next step is to start to color it. lol, the worlds largest coloring book!
