Ferris Plock is an artist from San Francisco who creates interesting characters and uses them to try and tell a story.. Much of his work is an influence from his childhood. Especially in this work you can see it as he mixes familiar cartoon characters with a sort of ukiyo-e style. This one piece is part of the Just For one Day exhibit in California.

I like the juxtaposition with cartoony characters and early Japanese/Manga art.
ReplyDeleteWe have a number of cultures represented here, likely the artist is of a multicultural background or believes in multiculturalism ideals. We have American Pop Culture, and Russian firearms, traditional Japanese art, and some African patterning on the clothing. nice.
